End Of An Era: Mirage Hotel Set To Close
After Hard Rock announced it was going to purchase the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas, we knew its’ remaining days were numbered. There were rumors of it closing prior to the inaugural F1 Race in November 2023. Those rumors were proven to be wrong. Then, Hard Rock released renderings of an addition hotel tower in the shape of a guitar it planned to build where the iconic Mirage volcano is currently sitting. These plans were approved by the Clark County and shortly thereafter the final operating date has been announced. July 17, 2024 will be last day to see Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas.
Opening on November 22, 1989, Mirage Hotel was an instant success. It donned a $1.2 million aquarium tank, a Dolphin Habitat, live tigers, and headliners Siegfried & Roy performing nightly. It featured a Y-style building that had panoramic views of the Las Vegas valley. This architecture went on to be copied by Treasure Island, Monte Carlo & Mandalay Bay. It had a fun tropical themed interior. Walking in from a hot summer Las Vegas day into a cool tropical oasis transported you to another world.
This is the second major hotel to close on the Las Vegas Strip. Tropicana Hotel closed earlier this year after a 67 year run. One thing we know is that Las Vegas is constantly evolving. Las Vegas casinos are in a race to unveil the newest & greatest. That is one thing that makes Vegas fun. However, it is also king of sad to part ways with these icons. However, we are sure that Hard Rock will transform this property into an icon in its’ own right. Expect an awesome nightclub, an elite pool venue, amazing shows and concerts and that vibrant atmosphere that the Hard Rock brand in synonymous for.
We will always have fond memories of Mirage Hotel because they were one of the first hotels to open its’ doors to our Unlock Las Vegas Pool Party Crawl, as we frequented Bare Pool. The topless pool party was one of the first of its kind and our guests loved it. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday we rocked out at that pool. It was fun. It was energetic. It was a perfect marriage. For that, we thank you Mirage!
